Cheese with Attitude

Vacherin Fribourgeois d’alpage AOC is made alongside the more famous Gruyère, in mountain chalets in the canton of Fribourg.

Josiane and Philippe Ruffieux produce only 3 tons of Vacherin Fribourgeois AOC per season, in the traditional way: by hand, in a copper vat on open wood fire.

From a Natural Park

Varvalanna is situated in the “Parc naturel Gruyère Pays d’Enhaut”, a landscape of postcard idyllic beauty between Gstaad in the Bernese Oberland and Montreux at Lake Geneva. It was here that the commercialisation of Gruyère cheese started, nearly a thousand years ago.
